His claws dancing over the console preforming routine diagnostics on various ships systems, making sure everything was in tip top shape. "Good morning,"Harrison said, "How busy are you today?" Zzt looked down at one of the newest members of the Nimitz clan. Zzt grinned, baring his large fangs. "Maintenance," Zzt replied, "Zzt got make sure nothing broke." "I wondered if you would care to talk about the mission?" The question caught Zzt off guard, and his snout wrinkled up, his ears fell back and his head tilted sideways in confusion. Zzt stared down at the human for several second, before finally it struck Zzt what he was talking about. "Mission," Zzt whispered, pulling Harrison in close with one paw. "We got spy on board and Captain send you to find them, right? You come Zzt for help." Zzt looked around the room suspiciously, with his usual subtly, before looking back at Harrison. He had been doing paper work all morning and was bored with it. The angosian was a man of action by nature. All of this paper work was killing him. ~Will no one leave me to get my work done.~ Then he relaxed, realizing that he may be showing his feelings about Kestra leaving. "Come!" he said gruffly and the foor opened. A marine marched. A very big marine. He came to a halt in front of his desk with foot stomp and a salute. Sash frowned. "Marine Kane Curtis reporting for duty Captain," the marine said, in a very formal introduction. "Umm... yeah. At ease marine," Sash told him. "I was ordered to hand you this letter Captain." He placed the letter on Sash's desk and waited for a reply Sash looked at the letter as if it contained a Danubian plague. The last thing he wanted was to read it. "You want to save me the hastle of reading it Mr. Kane?" Sash asked, finally picking it up. However, it seemed he had little choice. It was pretty rare for someone to recieve a written irder these days, so Sash was a little curious to its contents. So he carefully opened the envelope and read the letter. His eyebrow raised to see that it was from the Starfleet Science Council, The letter contained his transfer orders, as Kane told him, but it also contained some interesting information on Mr. Kane. Sash would read a line and then look up at the marine. Then he would read another and look up again. He read in silence, and when he was done he stood up and went to the replicator. He place the letter on the dispensor. "Computer, recycle." The paper disappeared. Sash turned back to face Kane. "I must say you seem to have a most interesting past. What there is of it. I must say that I am a little disconcerted to have you here, with the larege gaps in your memory. "Then your next step is to checkin with the MCO, Major Dorkin. Welcome aboard, and may God have mercy on your soul. Dismissed." He watched the marine walking out the door. The Betazoid had just turned thirty a scant week ago and for a belated birthday from Star Fleet had received orders to leave his researches on Geneva to become the new CSO on that ship. Earlier on the observation deck he had looked out at the proud vessel in drydock undergoing repairs, the ship appeared to have come through hell and back... almost in several pieces. The ship was technically an Enhanced Heavy Cruiser and an exploration vessel but the Sovereign class was little short of a warship and Holis knew it. With the Federation slipping now into open civil war he was afraid its scientific bent would be submerged into that martial aspect of its construction, indeed the damage to it would seem to attest to that very fact. Every time Holis let his shields down a bit he would be inundated with worry, anger, and fear from the people around him because of the current state of the Federation. ~Good thing I don't have any family to worry about.~ He thought as the transporter chief caught his eye and motioned him to the pad. He stepped onto the platform and waited for the tingle as the transport began. As it rose he saw the transporter room begin to blur then nothing for an instant... then the transporter room on the ship came into view. (USS Nimitz - Transporter Room 3- Dr. Holis Gralen - 1350) "Welcome aboard." The man behind the controls said. Holis nodded curtly then repented of his bad manners. "Thank you Chief. I'm Doctor Holis Gralen." He stepped off the plarform then walked to the man and stuck out his hand. After a strong shake he added. "I seem to be in a mood today, sorry about my original reaction." "Not a problem," The Lieutenant said. "A lot of people are on edge right now. Hopefully this little war of ours won't last long." "Indeed." Holis added then turned toward the door. "Got to report in. Could you tell me where the Captain is currently?" The man nodded and checked the computer. "Captain is currently in his Ready Room." "Thanks." sais Holis and headed for the door. (Reply: Any) (Posted by Charles) Stardate:2406.10.27 (USS Nimitz - Ready Room - CO - Captain Devan Sash and Dr. Holis Gralen - 1355) Holis pressed the chime beside the Ready Room door and waited for the call to enter, when it came he walked in and smiled at the man seated behind the desk. "Captain Sash I am Dr. Holis Gralen. I have orders to report to the Nimitz." He handed the PADD with his orders over to the Captain. Sash looked up from his desk, which was, literally, covered with PADDS. he had a tired, haunted look in his eyes and was extremely glad of the break from the tedium of paper work. Maybe if he didn't neglect it so badly, then it wouldn't pile up like that, but then again, where would he be without these little challenges in life. The captain took the PADD and stood up. He walked around his desk and shook hands with the new science officer. "Ah yes, Ensign Gralen. Welcome to the Nimiz. Please, have a seat." He indicated to the chair in front of his desk, and he took his usual spot on the edge of the desk. "I'm really not much in the science department, tell me a little about your specialty." Holis smiled as he retieved his hand and took the offered seat. The Captain had the look of a man desperately in need of sleep and a "time out " period to unwind. Being a Betazoid he picked up on the Captain's emotional state instantly and fell naturally into his most charming demeanor. "Thank you Captain Sash. I specialize in Warp Field Theory, subspace dynamics and dabble in temporal theory and any number of other disciplines. I have been studying the subspace river for over three months now from Geneva and was absolutely shocked when I was pulled off the study for a starship assignment. May I ask what happened to your former CSO? I do hope he is all right. I never expected to have a ship post." Sash chuckled. "Our last CSO was just promoted to FO of the USS Mystique. You might actually catch him before he leaves, if you want to get a quick run down on the department." He looked at his new CSO. "I'm afraid our facilities are not nearly as good as that of Geneva, but rest assured that your need here is just as great. May I ask? Your field is not what I would call, usual, for a Betazoid. How did you come to it?" Holis grinned at that and said. "How many times have I heard that question? Yes, yes I know my people gravitate toward counseling and such but I have always been fascinated by science and how things work rather than what is in someone else's mind. Just call me the black sheep of Betazed if you like." He laughed at his own joke. "I am sure the facilities will do nicely though Captain, there will just be a period of adjustment. That and an oversight of several departments and the corresponding paperwork will be a different step but everything will work out fine I am sure. I brought along the data I had accumulated and I am sure I will have time to look through it, it just won't be like being there." He stopped for a moment. "I can't help but feel the presence of a number of telepaths on board." His brow creased as he brushed the mind of one individual. "Including one in a lot of pain." He looked back up at the Captain. "I'm sure I will find it quite homelike here." Sash nodded, "The Nimitz has tended to house many telepaths. If you're sensitive feel the one in pain, it might be Dr. Kirien. We lost her Imzadi on our last mission. She hasn't quite recovered." He wanted to change the subject. Michaela had been seeming to avoid him lately, but he had managed to spend some time with the girls, finding ways to engage them in ships activities. "Well, you probably are anxious to check out your new facilities, and I don't want to keep you. We will be having a general staff meeting tomorrow at 0900. I'd appreciate your pressance." "Of course Captain." Holis stood to his feet and extended his hand once more. "I'm sure it will be enjoyable working with you and your crew. Until tomorrow then, in the meantime you should get some rest." Sash smiled. "I'll take that under advisement. Good day Doctor." Something struck Tagon as odd about the deployment figures. He heard the doors open and managed to catch a glimpse of Gideon entering the room. Since the man was suposed to be ther he didn't stop what he was doing. "Lieutenant Tagon," Gideon announced himself. Tagon looked up, that is to say, he tilted his body so that he looked straight forward. "Lt Commander Gideon." "Sorry for disturbing you Lieutenant, and further more sorry for not meeting you properly before now." "I'msure you had other matters to take care of," Tagon said, nonplused. "I understand you have been working Intelligence for a short time since you were transferred from Geneva?" "That's correct," Tagon replied simply "Could you tell me what is our exact resources on Nimitz from what I have seen they are minimal." Tagon made asweeping gesture with a huge hand. "What you see is what you get." "Did we collect all files from Commander Wilson's quarters? And was the room sealed and secured after his death?" "Of course," Tagon replied evenly. "However, the commander's quarters had not been sealed until my return. Apparently the ACMO and the counciler had access in that time." "The councilor, ACMO and numerous others entered for a group counseling session. Does no one understand the Commander might have held sensitive information in his quarters? Was a full itinerary performed on his quarters after he died?" "I went through all records," Tagon replied. "But I'm certain those indivduals had other things going on in their minds besides SFI security protocals." "Was anything missing and had anything been accessed?" "No," came another short reply. "Would you like me to question them further." Edward paced around the center of the room for a moment and then spoke. "Im going to go speak to the Councilor," Gideon stated and walked out of the door. Tagon looked at the door close and then shook his head. "Needs to relax," was all he could say, and then turned back to his reports. We'll go with that then." Sash listened as Casely went through some of his training and background. "And you went into Starfleet from that? Well, I'm glad that you're here now Ensign. We can use as much actical help in this time, as we can get." Sash stood up. "well, you should probably get in touch with your immediate supervisor. That would be Ensign Onyx Kateb. She is our current Tactical Chief, and I believe you'll find her on duty. I'll introduce you." Sash lead the new ATAC thtough the doors and onto the bridge. He moved over to the tactical station. "Ensign Kateb, let me introduce you to your new assistant, Ensign Casely. " Sash turned to leave, and then turned back. "After this Ensign, get aclimated to the ship. Your tour starts tomorrow. Be there, and be ready." "Yes Sir," replied Paul. “You arrived at the right time Ensign Casely... we are on down time right now, upgrading the tactical system and recharging the quantum torpedo bay. This is our tactical station.” "I understand, sir. What specifically will my duties be?" inquired Paul. “That we are combat ready, also that is an invasion occures on the ship that we are ready. Basically, is that we are ready for anything. I schedule a lot exercice practice for the tactical team. It's all here.” Onyx gave the Ensign a padd. “Today, there beta team running a simulation about an intruder alert.” "I see. So there are a lot of holodeck simulations then? How often do we drill shipwide, Sir?" “Different aspect... Gamma team will be target practice, with the main phaser. That is the program for the holodeck for them. I want everyone to be ready in case of trouble. Alpha team tomorrow is combat training at the gym, Klingon martial arts technics.” "I understand, Sir. How many staff members do we have?" inquired Paul. “120 to be exact.” Onyx smiled. “I will show you the Tactical nerve center.” Paul followed Onyx as she showed him the different stations. There was a lot to absorb, but he was interested in seeing as much as possible before he formally started his duties. They took the turbolift and in no time reach the Tactical center. (USS Nimitz - Deck 7, Tactical center - 1530) “Here we are, in case of important situation, tactical teams regroup here for a brainstorming, and strategy. There is a similar station on deck 14, and 21. The plan is to when there is an invasion, from that point you can lock that deck down, isolate it so you can get that part under control. Deck 21, the brig is there.” "How do tactical and security decide who has jurisdiction or does one compliment the other? I know what they say in the Academy, but I also know that what they tell us and what is practice often ends up being two separate things." “They complet each other most of the time. Tactical have the security of the ship and crew in mind. Security, the crew and the ship after so that we end up in a crisis situation together. Our primary function is to make this ship combat ready.” “I see... thank you, Sir.” “Alright... My suggestion, go get yourself comfortable, and relax... tomorrow is another day where we don't know what will happen. I got to go back to the Bridge now.” “Yes Sir... thank you.” “Have a good day and see you tomorrow.” Onyx smiled and left. Paul exited the area and started back to his quarters. He gestured to the others not to announce him. He wanted to see his new 2O at work. He was busy going over the report for change of shift. This was his first solo in the big chair, and he wanted to leave him with a few pating words of encouragement. Quietly, he moved down towards the command chair. He had to smile as he could see the doctor making himself quite comfortable. "So doctor, you look good in that chair." (reply Kinkaid) "Please, stand easy. I just came to see if you needed anything else, for your first watch." (reply Kinkaid) "Beta shift should be pretty quiet right now," Sash assured him. "Not as quiet as Gamma shift, but since we're pretty much out of the way of any action, it should still go smoothly. If you have any problems,or questions don't hesitate to call me." (reply Kinkaid) "Great," Sash smiled and nodded. He could tell that he was not as confident as he was demonstrating, but he was trying to fake it pretty well. "Remember, that your crew pretty much knows what to do, so trust in them. And also know that you are not here alone. Even I have to ask for help sometimes." With that he turned and headed for the turbo lift. "As you were everyone. Good night, Lt. You have the conn." As he approached the turbo lift doors he turned back around and winked at Kinkaid. His words had the impact that he had hoped. Kinkaid was in control. ~Should I be afraid?~ he joked with himself. Then the turbo lift doors closed and Kinkaid was the man in charge. (reply Kinkaid) (posted by Al Muir) Stardate:2406.10.27 (USS Nimitz - the Bridge – CMO/2O- Lt. Just by standing up, Kinkaid’s body returned to its normal tensed and stressful being. ~ One must wonder if the Captain has this feeling, too. ~ Kinkaid said thinking to himself again. Kinkaid returned to the center seat as one of the crewman handed a PADD with the latest shift schedule. It was as if something was going on when the chatter amongst the bridge crew was silenced for a brief moment after being handed the PADD. Kinkaid was trying not to be suspicious and continued to look over the schedule. While only hearing the beeping and chirps of the bridge systems, a voice of position spoke. "So doctor, you look good in that chair." Kinkaid put the PADD aside and looked to his left. Captain Sash was standing with his hands crossed and a questionable expression on his face. Kinkaid quickly stood up and called out, “Captain on the bridge!” And with a swift movement, Kinkaid positioned himself to the right of the Captain’s chair. Sash’s expression went from questionable to a pleasing one when he said, "Please, stand easy. I just came to see if you needed anything else, for your first watch." “Well, Sir, at this current moment I do not require anything.” Kinkaid said, handing the PADD with the shift schedule to Sash. Sash glanced at the PADD and returned it back to Kinkaid. "Beta shift should be pretty quiet right now," Sash assured Kinkaid. "Not as quiet as Gamma shift, but since we're pretty much out of the way of any action, it should still go smoothly. If you have any problems, or questions don't hesitate to call me." Kinkaid understood Sash’s request. “Of course, Captain, if anything happens I will call.” "Great," Sash smiled and nodded. Sash could tell that Kinkaid was not as confident as he was demonstrating, but he was trying to fake it pretty well. "Remember, that your crew pretty much knows what to do, so trust in them. And also know that you are not here alone. Even I have to ask for help sometimes." Kinkaid was in awe of his CO’s wisdom. Having this command responsibility put Kinkaid in a new arena of decision making, which if anything did occur would be the first real challenge to combat. Sash then turned and headed for the turbo lift. "As you were everyone. Good night, Lt. You have the conn." Kinkaid said, “Aye, Sir. Good night.” As Sash entered the turbolift, Kinkaid noticed Sash taking a quick look at him probably wondering if he should be scared of him on the bridge of his ship, but wink back as the turbolift doors slid close. Kinkaid returned to the center seat taking a deep breath sigh of relief as he sat down. (Reply Anyone) (Posted by Nathan M. Williams) Stardate:2406.10.27 (USS Nimitz - Ten Forward- Assistant Tactical Chief- Ensign Paul Casely - 2118) Paul walked into the lounge and ordered a drink. He had heard about these lounges and their spectacular views. It did look impressive, even if it was a view of the starbase. He would have to make a point of coming back when they were out of dock. Paul knew that he should be resting before the meeting in the morning, but he also knew he was going to have difficulty sleeping. It was all overwhelming. He was used to the technology, the Academy had all of that, however the fact that he was actually light years away from home was still hard to fathom. The ship was like a living organism... people were everywhere, all of them moving with a sense of purpose, all of them seeming to know each other. At this point, more than at any previous time, Paul felt alone. Not alone in the sense that on this ship he really knew no one... alone in that he had no one who he could really share his accomplisments with. His parents didn't even know, didn't even care, where he was right now. Paul sighed, best not to think about that it would just serve to depress him. He had a lot to get accustomed to, a lot to learn. He had started going through the tactical capabilities of this craft during his month of travel, but he knew that all starships started "deviating" from the "by the book" configurations almost the moment they left dock. The engineer would find a better way to configure this, the tactical chief would find a more useful way to boost that. By the book didn't always mean much in space, probably one of the reasons it appealed to him. A quick glance around confirmed that he was the only single party in Ten Forward at this moment. No big shock. He was the new guy on board. It would be awhile before he felt included and part of things. Hopefully he would find his own way "in" sooner rather than later. At the moment he was feeling hungry. Paul glanced over and noticed that it was indeed possible to get food here. Paul got up and started over to get some food. ~ I wonder if the replicators are programmed make tourtiere here. ~ (Reply anyone, if you want to) (Posted by Jeff Bergeron)
